What is a Submentoplasty?
A submentoplasty involves surgery of the area under the chin and the upper portion of the neck. This is an abbreviated type of neck lift that is mostly used on younger patients. The best candidate is a younger patient with fat deposits in the neck but without a lot of skin excess.
The submentoplasty procedure involves making a small incision under the chin, then performing liposuciton and fat removal as well as tightening the platysma muscles (the muscles in the front of the neck that cause bands). In addition, deeper fat deposits are usually recontoured. For some patients, a simultaneous chin implant compliments this procedure.
The patients shown below had neck and chin aesthetics that made them look decades older and was resistant to weight loss. The before and after submentoplasty pictures are shown.
