My New Textbook is Now Available and I am Elated!
Although I have written 6 textbooks, my major effort was the 800 page textbook “Cosmetic Facial Surgery” that I wrote in 2010. The book was published by Elsevier, the largest medical textbook publisher in the world and had excellent sales throughout all specialties that perform cosmetic surgery. The book was also translated to a Spanish version by request of Spanish speaking countries.
The vast majority of medical textbooks do not reach a second edition as I was honored to have been asked by the plastic surgery arm of Elsevier publishing to write the second edition in 2014. It appears that I forgot how hard it was to write the first edition as writing this second edition was the hardest academic challenge I have accomplished. The goal was not to serve a warmed over copy of the first edition, but rather to present a “new” book and I rose to that challenge. I was on the keyboard hours each day, usually up till midnight and with the assistance and support of my staff, retook several thousand new surgical pictures. In addition, instead of doing all the chapters myself, I invited some some internationally recognized, key opinion leaders in plastic, maxillofacial, facial plastic, and oculoplastic, and dermatologic surgery to contribute. Even with this, I still authored 12 chapters myself. Dr. Angelo Cuzalina also did a tremendous job revamping this awesome rhinoplasty chapter from the first edition.
I have to thank my wife for her unwavering support of this diversion from our personal time. I also want to thank my staff and the staff from Elsevier publishing.
I think this textbook will set some sales records and is a useful adjunct to any doctor, student, intern, resident or nurse that deals with cosmetic facial surgery. This second edition is certainly a milestone in my career.
