Eyelid Surgery for Men

The eyes are the first thing we look at when we see someone’s face. As we age, the eyelids droop from excess skin and fat accumulations. In the lower lids, fat pads appear which create the look of dark circles. All of these changes make us look older and tired. Many men are eyelid surgery candidates in the middle or later 4th decade.

Who is a Candidate for Cosmetic Blepharoplasty?

Usually men in their mid-forties begin to develop excess skin and possible fat protrusion. Since cosmetic surgery is elective, the best time to do blepharoplasty is when the appearance bothers the patient. Some patients with genetic skin or fat excess may need surgery at an earlier age. Dr. Niamtu has performed over 4,000 eyelid surgeries and this is one of his favorite procedures.

How is Blepharoplasty Surgery Performed?

Cosmetic blepharoplasty is performed with IV anesthesia in our fully accredited in-office surgery center. Dr Niamtu uses advanced laser technology to perform the surgery which reduces blood loss to almost zero. Less bleeding means less swelling, less bruising, less pain and faster healing.

What is the Recovery for Cosmetic Blepharoplasty?

Recovery varies from patient to patient and also by what procedures are performed. For most patients a week off of work is adequate including the weekend. If deep laser skin resurfacing is performed, the recovery can be longer. It is also important for patients undergoing eyelid surgery not to be on any medications or supplements that can affect bleeding. This includes anticoagulants, aspirin, fish oil and other medications that our office will discuss with patients. It is of extreme importance to rest for the first week after blepharoplasty surgery. Any activity that increases blood pressure such as lifting, bending, coughing or straining must be avoided.
