The facelift incision is carefully planned to be hidden in the ear canal, behind the ear and in the hairline. When properly placed the incisions are almost imperceptible in most patients. No hair is required to be shaved and this is a common misconception. The incisions are closed with very fine sutures that will dissolve by themselves. The incision in the hairline behind the ear is usually closed with small surgical staples as these are more gentle to the hair follicles than sutures.

The picture on the left shows the short scar incision used with the small or weekend facelift. The picture on the right shows the incision pattern utilized with the medium (mini-lift) and comprehensive (larger) facelift.

This image shows a typical facelift scar three (3) weeks after surgery.
The image gallery on the right shows healed facelift incisions after surgery. Results will vary from patient to patient depending on how the patient heals. This area generally heals extremely well and Dr. Niamtu takes great care in incision planning to insure the most esthetic results.
