Laser hair removal has been one of the most significant advances in cosmetic medicine. This modality treats the hairs that are in a specific growth phase. Since only some of the hairs are in this stage at one time, multiple treatments are necessary. Generally 3-5 treatments spaced about 3-4 weeks apart are adequate.
Permanent hair removal is probably a misnomer and permanent hair reduction is more accurate. Some hairs will continue to grow but the reduction is usually very significant.
The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) successfully treats unwanted face and neck hair. It provides a permanent reduction of hair and works best on dark hair on light skinned patients.
Lasers are basically ineffective for blond or grey hair and only work with darker hair. Also patients with skin of color or tanned patients must be carefully treated as significant burns or pigment changes can occur.
Our office only performs hair removal on the head and neck.

The patient above had 3 IPL hair removal treatments on her chin. Several more treatments should complete the process.
