WHAT IS SUBMENTOPLASTY?
Submentoplasty is a less invasive procedure to rejuvenate the neck in selected patients.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR SUBMENTOPLASTY?
Generally, younger patients with a poor chin and neck profile and without significant skin excess are the best candidates. Selected adults with excess neck tissue and without jowls may occasionally be candidates.
WHO IS NOT A CANDIDATE FOR SUBMENTOPLASTY?
Patients with excessive neck skin and jowling are only candidates for facelift. As stated, patients in their fifth decade is significant skin excess are usually not candidates.
WHAT TYPE OF ANESTHESIA IS USED FOR SUBMENTOPLASTY?
Dr. Niamtu prefers IV sedation or general anesthesia for submentoplasty procedures.
HOW IS SUBMENTOPLASTY PERFORMED?
There are no incisions in front of or behind the ears! The surgery involves an incision under the chin, liposuction to the neck, removal of deep fat, reshaping and tightening of the platysma muscle.
WHAT OTHER PROCEDURES ARE FREQUENTLY PERFORMED WITH SUBMENTOPLASTY?
Chin implants, jowl liposuction and buccal fat reduction are commonly performed at the same time of submentoplasty
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY FOR SUBMENTOPLASTY?
Most patients spend 7-10 days for recovery.
SUBMENTOPLASTY Procedure
This series of pictures show the various steps with an average submentoplasty and one of Dr. Niamtu’s patients. This procedure works best on younger patients with poor profile, hereditary fat deposits and recessive chin. This is not a proper procedure for older patients with significant skin excess.
