Genioplasty versus Chin Implant: Why Some Patients Need a Genioplasty
Chin implant surgery is a simple surgical procedure with dramatic results that takes less than an hour and is adjustable and reversible. For patients with a deficient chin, profile or jawline, chin implant surgery can improve aesthetics and boost confidence. Not everyone with a recessive chin is a candidate for chin implants and depending on the patient’s anatomy, they may need a genioplasty (surgical advancement of the chin) to properly address the problem. Unfortunately, I see numerous patients that were treated elsewhere with chin implants and should have had a genioplasty instead. Performing the wrong operation can produce a very unnatural result, so accurate diagnosis and treatment is essential. This video discusses the nuances of this diagnosis and treatment.
