2017 in Review: A Great Year

As the final hours of 2017 come to an end it has been a great year in many ways. My two special needs sons went an entire year without any hospitalizations or emergency room visits, which was a first in 17 years. My wife and I celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary and my father (a world war II vet) celebrated this 93 birthday. Way to go pop!

Professionally it was a great year as well. I finished the second edition of my text book which is in the top 5 of medical text sales on Amazon. I also wrote another textbook on facelift surgery which should be ready for distribution in the spring. My awesome staff and I were honored to win “Best Cosmetic Surgeon” from Virginia Living Magazine, “Hall of Fame Status” for Best Cosmetic Surgeon (indicating first place for 7 consecutive years) from Style Magazine and “Best Plastic Surgeon” from the Richmond Times dispatch.

In 2017 I performed my 1000th facelift which is a career goal that few cosmetic surgeons achieve. We also performed numerous surgeries for free or reduced fees on children whose parents could not affored it and supported over 30 charities with donations from our practice.

Academically, cosmetic facial surgery has taken me to 6 continents.  I had the honor of speaking on cosmetic surgery in Seoul, South Korea, Tokyo, Japan, Las Vegas (twice), San Diego, San Diego, St. Louis University, Kona, Hawaii, and Duke University.

In 2018 I will be speaking in Mexico City, Munich, The Canary Islands, Spain, and Cancun as well as well as 4-5 US cities.

2017 also brought some losses.  My good buddy Joe Kelly (father of HOF quarter back Jim Kelly) passed away as did my good friend and master orthodontist Dr. John King.  Bob Jones one of Richmond’s masterpiece personalities and master photographer also completed his earthly journey.  I will miss all of these friends.

Looking back, I had a great year and I want to thank my family, friends, staff and patients for making it great.  I hope 2018 holds the same happiness.  Happy New Year to anyone reading this blog!
