Star Myles Domestic Violence Survivor: One of the Bravest Women (and patients) I Have Ever Seen

Star Myles (then Star Austin) was holding her 1 year old infant when her former husband shot her in the head at point blank rage just behind her left eye.  Miraculously, she survived and lived to tell the story and help other victims of domestic abuse.

I was honored to be one of the surgeons who assisted Star on a pro bono basis.  Her strength, courage, and amazing personality have stayed in my mind as one of my most memorable patients.  Some more about Star and other victims of domestic violence I (and other surgeons) have assisted can be seen here.

Recently Star and her saga were featured in Cosmopolitan and  Women’s Health Magazines along with some other brave survivors.
