Lieutenant Dan comes to Richmond!

I have had the honor once again of being a sponsor of Stories of Grace and Courage, a yearly event sponsored by the Virginia  Home.  The guest speaker this year was Gary Sinise.  Gary has starred in scores of movies and on the TV series CSI NY, but is perhaps best known for the role that launched his career as Lieutenant Dan in Forrest Gump.  Gary is a fun person and very humble.  He graciously conversed with sponsors and attendees and was simply a nice guy.  He visited the Virginia home and spent hours with the residents, laughing, taking pictures and being Gary.  His charity “The Gary Sinise Foundation” even donated $10,000 to the Virginia Home.

Having two special needs children, the Virginia Home is dear to April’s and my heart. Although our children stay with us at our home, the Virginia Home serves those who cannot.  The Virginia Home is a progressive, thriving community – a private, nonprofit 130-bed home that provides nursing, therapeutic and residential care. Founded 125 years ago, their community remains the only one of its kind in the Commonwealth – a unique model of both compassionate care and a comforting place to call home for adult Virginians with irreversible physical disabilities.

It was a great night and a great special guest for such a great cause.
