Drs. Monroe and Jill Harris Honored by Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
I am so proud of my partner/friend/brother and maxillofacial surgeon supreme, Dr. Monroe Harris, Jr. and one of RVA’s finest cosmetic dentists, his wife, Dr. Jill Bussey Harris. Their recent generous gift has enabled the Harris’ vision for the museum, and also resulted in one of the VMFA galleries being named in their honor.
More decades ago than I care to admit, I heard of a very talented oral and maxillofacial surgeon from Kentucky, who was completing his residency, and I brought Monroe to Richmond for an interview. It took no more than 2 minutes to understand that Monroe was an extremely talented surgeon and a kind and diligent individual.
Monroe and Jill moved to Richmond and did not know a single person in this city! Fast forward 30 years and these two talented docs have become entwined in community support and sit on so many boards, it would hurt my fingers to type them all out. I have always been amazed at their abilities to work, raise a family (Monroe Harris, III is my Godson and Madison is pursuing a career in the arts) and give back so generously through their community service. RVA is a better place because of the time, talents and selfless spirits of Monroe and Jill Harris. So proud of both of you!
