We Will Miss You Lisa Schaffner, I Never Met a Nicer Person

It was with great sadness that I learned about the sudden passing of my longtime pal, former news anchor, and all around amazing person Lisa Schaffner.

I have been in Richmond for almost 40 years and really can’t remember not knowing her.  Not sure how we first met, but over the decades her crazy smile and warm personality made her one of Richmond’s all time sweethearts.  She is one of the few persons in my life that I never saw frown, in a bad mood, say something bad or even be negative.  She was just a ball of energy with a blinding smile….always!

Lisa spent much of her life helping others and it was a rare weekend night that she was not at some charity function to help raise money for worthy causes.  She did it because she wanted to.  She was glad to do it, even though it took much time from her personal life.

I think this is the last picture I have with her at a party at our home.  I am seen here photo bombing Lisa (left) and Lauren Hall (right).  She knew damn well I was behind her………..that impish grin!

We went to Lisa’s calling hours tonight and stood in line for almost 90 minutes.  She was that big in the life of tens of thousands Richmonders.  Lisa got married six months ago to Tyrone, another amazing person.  Our hearts are with him and her children Dani and Jesse.

This was truly a gut punch and I can’t believe she is gone.  She was the Lady Di of Richmond Virginia.  We have lost not only a friend, but an institution.
