A Christmas Mother’s Weekend

I am so proud that my wife April has been tapped as the Richmond Times Dispatch 2019 Richmond Christmas Mother; The 85th Richmonder mom to hold that title.  As we get closer to the holiday season her schedule is heating up.  This Friday she spoke at the Salvation Army Holiday Sponsor’s Luncheon.

April thanks the sponsors at the Salvation Army Event.  Thanks Nikki Dee Ray for taking the picture.

Saturday we attended the Puritan Cleaners Ball Park Warming Party to collect winter coats for those in need.  A big shout out to the folks at Puritan Cleaners who collect, dry clean and mend the coats to deliver to the Salvation Army.  Sara Moncrief from Puritan collected over 600 coats.   Also a huge shout out to “Parney” Parnell, the VP and COO of the Richmond Squirrels.  This coat drive is the longest running Squirrels function.  Parney is one of the biggest community activists who opens his heart, team and stadium to an amazing amount of charitable causes.  He is truly a Richmond Gem.  Also big thanks to the omnipresent Antoinette Essa whose cheerful face is everywhere and CBS’s Bill Fitzgerald.

Parney Parnell King of the Squirrels is one of the most generous benefactors in Richmond, we love him.

My buddy and radio host Jeff Wicker and his team who also do so much for the community. Music was provided by the group “Hit List” and these guys were amazing!

Just when you think it can’t get any better, the roar of motorcycles shakes the Diamond as the “Hundred +Ryder” motorcycle club shows up for the fifth year in a row with a bright orange truck full of coats.  These big, burly bikers have hearts of gold.

These bikers are community activists and have donated coats for this project for the past 5 years.  Thanks guys!!

The CBS Channel 6 folks with their beastly Storm Rider Attack Vehicle were on hand to compete in a small but awesome chili cook off with the folks from,  Puritan Cleaners, The Diamond, the Rotary club and Hobnob.    Top Golf and and Rotary had giveaways and Hardywood Brewery had Oatmeal Stout and hot dogs.  The Christmas Mother dispensed her signature candy canes to all takers.  What a great afternoon.

That evening we attended the Fur Ball at the Jefferson Hotel to spread some further holiday cheer and pet some pups.  Here we saw another CBS luminary and news anchor Greg McQuade who MC’d the evening.

CBS’s Greg McQuade MC’d the Fur Ball parade of pooches.

This was a slow weekend and then next 6 week will hold up to six events in a single day.  Is the Christmas Mother tired, heck no, she was born for this.
