Rest in Peace John Madden: You Were Bigger Than Life!

We have had the distinct pleasure to meet Coach John Madden on several occasions.  The guy is a big man, but emitted and aura that was  even bigger.  His voice was big, his personality was bit and his heart was big.  We would see him at the Pro Football Hall of Fame ceremony and of course all of this famous friends were there, so he was never alone or not talking to someone.  Despite this, if you said “Hi John”, he would  stop and talk to you (unlike many famous Hall of Famers).  It never seemed forced or a bother.  I understand that he had been like that his entire life.

After a short football career that ended with a knee injury became one of the most famous NFL coaches ever to coach the game during his time with the Oakland Raiders.  He then captured an entire new generation of younger people with the now famous Madden Video Game series, a big success and a big accomplishment.  Again, it is impossible to talk about John Madden and use the adjective “BIG”.
